পাশে ‘স্যারেরা’, প্রযুক্তির হাত ধরে ওদের স্বপ্ন-উড়ান

বইয়ের পাতার জ্ঞান স্কুলে মিলতই। কিন্তু বাঁকুড়ার দ্বাদশ শ্রেণির কোয়েল টুডু এখন বইয়ের পাশাপাশি ইন্টারনেট ঘেঁটে ভারতের উপজাতি-সংস্কৃতি সম্পর্কে প্রবন্ধ লিখছে। অঙ্ক না মিললে চটপট ভিডিও চ্যাটে ভুল শুধরে নিচ্ছে অষ্টম শ্রেণির গোবিন্দ মুর্মু। সৌজন্যে রাজ্যের এক দল ইঞ্জিনিয়ার।

তাঁরা রাজ্য বা কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের কোনও সমাজকল্যাণ প্রকল্পের সঙ্গে যুক্ত নয়। কিন্তু তাঁদের চেষ্টায় এ রাজ্যের কয়েকশো আদিবাসী পড়ুয়া ই-লার্নিংয়ের সুবিধা পাচ্ছে। প্রথাগত শিক্ষার বাইরে, প্রযুক্তিগত ভাবে আদিবাসী শিশুদের শিক্ষিত করতে এগিয়ে এসেছেন ওই ইঞ্জিনিয়ারেরা। ল্যাপটপে কী ভাবে ভিডিও কনফারেন্স করতে হয়, ইন্টারনেটে কী করে দরকারি বই খুঁজতে হয়, ডাউনলোড করতে হয়, কম্পিউটার চালানোর খুঁটিনাটি শেখানোর পাশাপাশি পড়ুয়াদের বিজ্ঞান, ইংরেজি ও অঙ্ক শেখাচ্ছেন তাঁরা।

বছর চারেক ধরে তাঁরা বাঁকুড়ার শুশুনিয়ায় এই কাজ করছেন। এর পরে তাঁরা উত্তরবঙ্গের আদিবাসীদের নিয়েও কাজ করতে চান।

হঠাৎ আদিবাসী পড়ুয়াদের প্রথাগত শিক্ষার বাইরে প্রযুক্তিগত দিক থেকে স্বাবলম্বী করার ভাবনা কেন? কাজের মূল উদ্যোক্তা রাজীব দাসশর্মা কলকাতার একটি অনাথ আশ্রমের শিশুদের সঙ্গে সময় কাটাতে যেতেন। সেখানেই তাঁর আলাপ হয় শুশুনিয়ার একটি প্রাথমিক স্কুলের শিক্ষক বাবুনাথ টুডুর সঙ্গে। তাঁর আমন্ত্রণে সাঁওতাল গ্রাম দেখতে যান রাজীববাবু। সেখানে তাদের অসুবিধা দেখে তিনি ঠিক করেন, প্রযুক্তিগত ভাবে এদের স্বাবলম্বী করার চেষ্টা করলে কেমন হয়? বন্ধু ও পরিচিতদের প্রথমে এই পরিকল্পনা সম্পর্কে জানান রাজীববাবু। ধীরে ধীরে ‘শিক্ষক’-এর সংখ্যা বাড়ে। এখন তা দাঁড়িয়েছে ১৫-তে।

এই ‘শিক্ষক’-দের বেশিরভাগই কর্মসূত্রে রাজ্যের বাইরে থাকেন। কেউ থাকেন বেঙ্গালুরু, কেউ আবার দিল্লি।

প্রত্যন্ত গ্রামে আদিবাসী পড়ুয়াদের এঁরা পড়ান কী ভাবে? রাজীববাবুরা জানান, ভৌগোলিক দূরত্বকে সরিয়ে দিয়েছে প্রযুক্তি। যেখানে তাঁরা কাজ করেন, সেখানে স্থানীয় মানুষও তাঁদের সাহায্য করেন। যেমন, শুশুনিয়ায় তাঁদের সাহায্য করছেন বাবুনাথবাবু ও তাঁর স্ত্রী লক্ষ্মীদেবী। স্কুলপড়ুয়াদের নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে এক জায়গায় জড়ো করেন তাঁরা। রুটিন মাফিক ক্লাস চলে ভিডিও কনফারেন্সের সাহায্যে। ইঞ্জিনিয়ারের দল পড়ুয়াদের জন্য একটি প্রোজেক্টর দিয়েছে। যা থাকে টুডু দম্পতির কাছে। পড়ুয়াদের ল্যাপটপে ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহারের জন্য আর্থিক সহযোগিতা করেন এই কারিগরেরা। এই কাজের পোশাকি নাম তাঁরা দিয়েছেন ‘এডুকেট ওয়ান কিড’।

স্কুলের বাইরে নতুন শিক্ষকদের পাশে পেয়ে খুশি পড়ুয়ারাও। যষ্ঠ শ্রেণির সাগেন মুর্মু বড় হয়ে কম্পিউটার ইঞ্জিনিয়ার হতে চায়। তার এই স্বপ্নপূরণে পাশে আছেন ইঞ্জিনিয়ার স্যারেরা। সাগেন বলে, ‘‘রাজীব স্যার বলেছে, কম্পিউটার ইঞ্জিনিয়ার হতে চাইলে শুধু ল্যাপটপ চালানো শিখলেই হবে না। অঙ্ক, ইংরেজিটাও শিখতে হবে। স্যার সপ্তাহে দু’দিন এই ল্যাপটপে আমায় অঙ্ক আর ইংরেজি শেখায়।’’ অষ্টম শ্রেণির রামলাল হেমব্রমের আগ্রহ আবার ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে। সাঁওতালি মাধ্যম স্কুলে পড়লেও ইংরেজি নিয়ে সে পড়তে চায়। সেই স্বপ্ন বাস্তব করতে এখন থেকেই রামলালকে তৈরি করছেন ওই ‘শিক্ষকেরা’। ল্যাপটপে ব্যাকরণ থেকে সাহিত্যের বিভিন্ন খুঁটিনাটি বিষয় তুলে ধরছেন তাঁরা। রামলাল বলে, ‘‘স্কুলের পরে কোনও বিষয় পড়তে পড়তে আটকে গেলে মুশকিলে পড়তাম। এখন স্যারেরা আছেন। আর কোনও সমস্যা হয় না।’’

তবে ইঞ্জিনিয়ারের দল বলছেন, শুধু ইঞ্জিনিয়ারই নয়। শিক্ষক, গায়ক, ইতিহাসবিদ, চিত্রশিল্পী— সবাইকে পাশে চাই। শুধু প্রযুক্তিতে নয়, সার্বিক ভাবে ওরা এগিয়ে যাক।

All 30 Students passed in 2018 West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. Amardeep Tudu secured the First Rank in the State among all the Santhali Students. He scored 80% Marks with more than 80% in 4 subjects. This was the First Santhali Batch of Students who appeared the Secondary Exam in Olchiki Medium. All of them did well in English.

KOLKATA: Twenty friends, all successful professionals, taught 30 Santhal kids on distance mode for two years, keeping a goal in mind — Madhyamik 2018. All have scored beyond 60%, with the highest scorer having gone beyond 80% — both in aggregate and also in English. This was the first time that the Santhal kids were allowed to write in Olchiki.

With their cloud teaching experiment having pulling off so well, the group is on cloud nine. The friends, settled across the globe, came together in 2012 and decided to found a platform, EducateOneKid. They kept aside a portion of their earnings to buy stationery and reading material for underprivileged kids in the tribal zones of Bengal. The brain behind the group, Kolkata-born Bengali Rajiv Das Sharma, who is now settled in Bangalore after completing his IT assignments with major houses in the US and Singapore, thought of starting with this state and his friends agreed. By 2015, the group met some enlightened social workers from Bankura, who were trying to educate Santhal kids.
“People like Rashamay Hansda, who runs an ashram at Kamalpur near Susunia, Babunath Tudu, Lakshmi Tudu, Dharandas Tudu and Paritosh Soren, who are teachers in a school at Chhatna, came to us when we started distributing educational material among kids from financially backward families from Bankura. Together we devised a plan for 30 children,” Das Sharma said. The kids had just been promoted to Class IX and had to be coached for Madhyamik.

The group of friends donated computers with internet connections for the classrooms that the ashrams provided. Each friend took turns to prepare subject-wise content for the kids and teach them via Google Hangout. Cloud computing technology was used to store content and audio books where the syllabus was explained and made easy for the children. “We had to buy cloud space from Dropbox for this. Each of us took responsibility of chapters and topics according to our strength areas and prepared lectures and text material,” said Madhulika Chandra Kumar, a Bangalore-based teacher.
Kids attended these special classes for three hours every evening after school and had to follow a fixed routine. The teaching medium was Bengali. Teaching English was quite a challenge initially, but with the help of the local teachers, it was overcome, said TCS employee Suprabuddha Nag.

“The problem was that these kids would write in Olchiki. So, much of the content that we prepared was translated into Olchiki by local teachers and that was a great help,” said Soma Bhattacharya, an IT engineer who lives in Phoenix and prepared a lot of content. Among the others in the group are English teacher Prantika Ghosh, IIM student Biswajit Biswas, Suvabrata Dey, who teaches physics in London, retired RBI employee Rita Bose and Delhibased artist Suman Sengupta.

This is just the beginning, the group says. With clouds to help it, sky is the limit.
